"There are those who believe that life here began out there."

I'm a huge fan of the original Battlestar Galactica series. But this new series has been a total disappointment. I find myself almost wishing I was watching Galactica 1980 instead. Sure the plot isn't as bad as 1980, but at least 1980 had some action in it. The new series is more like JAG in Space. But without the space!

Probably my biggest complaint about the new series is the total lack of motion. I'll admit that I haven't seen every episode, but what I have seen is almost entirely onboard the ships. There is no sense that they have a destination, or even that they are moving anywhere at all! In the original series, the fleet was constantly in motion, the Cylons dogging them every step of the way, and they had an ultimate goal, "a shining planet, known as Earth."

And what they've done to Baltar! In the original series, Baltar was the devil himself, an evil genius plotting the destruction of his own race. In the new series, Baltar is just a goof. There doesn't seem to be a master, evil villan. No Baltar, no Imperious Leader, not even Lucifer.

I'm also a bit annoyed that they seem to have abandoned the entire Colonial measurement system, using English terms like minutes and years instead of centons and yahrens.

King of Suede

When I got up this morning, I guess I got out of bed on the wrong foot or something, because I suddently got a sharp stabbing pain in my back. It's been bugging me all day, but I've got stuff to do, so I'm just sucking it up and trying to work through the pain.

And then while I was trying to check the bolts on my car's rear sway bar, the wrench slipped, crushing my finger against the trailing arm. It's been throbbing for over an hour, and there's a nice big blue spot in the middle of my fingernail.

At this rate I'll be lucky to make it through the rest of the day with all my limbs intact.

"Video killed the radio star"

My TV was delivered this afternoon! Yay! Apparently they had to replace one of the circuit boards.

The TV being gone gave me a chance to redo all the cabling. I hardly ever use the VCR, so I recabled it to use composite, and used the S-video cable for my Prismiq media player. The Prismiq's web browser and AIM client are actually usable now. I also discovered a second audio output on the back on the TV, so I could hook up my stereo and wireless headphones at the same time. I also replaced the surge protector which was about 6 or 7 years old.

Now time to watch DVDs!
