I voted!

Voted (by proxy) today in ExxonMobil's annual shareholder meeting.  After carefully reading the proxy statements, I ended up voting against most of the board of director's recommendations.  Pay more dividends, ya' bastards!  ;)

This was my first stockholder vote!  Whoot!

Yes, back when I owned stock (something I hope never to do again) I found that almost always I would be voting against the recommendations of the board of directors. The reasons are abundantly clear. The board have certain interests: first, to maximize their own incomes; second, to maximize corporate profits regardless of environmental impact or other considerations; third, to maintain their own power lest someone who takes a different point of view get into a position to challenge them. Everything they recommend is suspect. One of the things I noticed was that virtually every proxy included some proposition to enhance the golden parachutes offered to the top executives. I never saw a single one that proposed a business plan that would reduce environmental impact or help to attract and keep good employees at the levels where real work is done (which is NOT in the boardroom or CEO office, I assure you.)
