Who killed the video star?

I was listening to Video Killed the Radio Star, which was the first video ever played on MTV.  I got to thinking that MTV no longer plays music videos, however radio is still alive and kicking.  So obviously video didn't kill the radio star, video committed suicide while radio survived, despite its age.

Radio plays ended (in the United States) on the 30th of September, 1962, with the cancellation of the last dramas (Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, about a freelance insurance investigator and you read that correctly was the last one). But network radio fiction shows had been shut down through the 50s. That was driven more by the prospect of having the chance to make more money in television, partly by its greater possibilities for advertising appeal, partly by realizing if there was less radio drama-and-comedy, fans would go to television for those shows.
